Bafana Bafana’s latest result is a 1-0 win over Egypt in a friendly at Cairo International Stadium on Sunday 4 October 2026, with Puso Dithejane scoring in the 51st minute. It was a third straight win under Pitso Mosimane, after a 2-1 home win over Guinea on 26 September and a 5-0 win against Eritrea on 30 September in AFCON 2027 qualifying. Across 2026 South Africa have played eleven times. Ten scores are confirmed by two sources: four wins, three draws and three defeats, including the World Cup round of 32 loss to Canada. One, the June friendly against Jamaica, is reported differently by two reputable sources and we show both.
Every Bafana Bafana result in 2026
Dates are South African time. Scores were checked this morning against the ESPN international results feeds and at least one independent report per match: Wikipedia’s Group A record for the World Cup, and EWN, Times Live, Sowetan, SuperSport, The Citizen and Africa Soccer for the rest. Home team first.

The Jamaica score, and why we will not pick one
The final warm-up before the World Cup was played behind closed doors in Pachuca on 6 June. The ESPN results feed records it as Jamaica 0-1 South Africa. SuperSport’s match report says South Africa drew 1-1. Both are normally reliable, the match had no crowd and little coverage, and we could not find a third account this morning that settles it. So we show the disagreement, leave the match out of every total on this page, and show below what each version would do to the numbers.
The World Cup, in four lines
South Africa finished second in Group A on four points behind Mexico, who won all three. The final table reads Mexico 9 points, South Africa 4, South Korea 3 and Czechia 1, and its goal columns balance at 12 scored and 12 conceded across the group. Wikipedia’s tournament record notes that South Africa “qualified for the knock-out stages of a World Cup for the first time, as runners up of Group A”. The run ended in the round of 32 with a 1-0 defeat to Canada, the winner coming in stoppage time.
Two halves of a year
This is the original dataset on this page, and it is not published anywhere else on the site. The ten confirmed results split cleanly into the seven matches before Pitso Mosimane’s first game in charge and the three since. To compare them we score each match three points for a win and one for a draw, the same way a league table would.
| Period | Played | W-D-L | Points | Points per game | Scored | Conceded | Goals per game |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| March to June, before Mosimane | 7 | 1-3-3 | 6 | 0.86 | 4 | 7 | 0.57 |
| September and October, under Mosimane | 3 | 3-0-0 | 9 | 3.00 | 8 | 1 | 2.67 |
| Under Mosimane, leaving out Eritrea | 2 | 2-0-0 | 6 | 3.00 | 3 | 1 | 1.50 |
| All ten confirmed | 10 | 4-3-3 | 15 | 1.50 | 12 | 8 | 1.20 |
Read honestly, the jump is real but smaller than the raw line suggests. Five of the eight goals under Mosimane came in one match, against a side that conceded five on a neutral ground in Cairo. Take that game out and the scoring rate is 1.50 goals a game, still almost three times the 0.57 managed between March and June, but no longer a different team. And the first-half-of-the-year schedule included Mexico, Czechia, South Korea and Canada at a World Cup, which is a harder set of opponents than Guinea, Eritrea and an Egypt friendly in which Mosimane made nine changes to his starting line-up, according to The Citizen’s match report.
| If the Jamaica score is | Before Mosimane, W-D-L | Points per game | 2026 total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Left out (as on this page) | 1-3-3 from 7 | 0.86 | 4 wins, 3 draws, 3 losses |
| 0-1 to South Africa (ESPN) | 2-3-3 from 8 | 1.13 | 5 wins, 3 draws, 3 losses |
| 1-1 (SuperSport) | 1-4-3 from 8 | 0.88 | 4 wins, 4 draws, 3 losses |
Whichever version is right, the conclusion holds: before September this side won one or two of its matches, and since September it has won all three.
Our picks on Bafana, every one graded
Our public pick log starts on 4 August 2026, so we published nothing on any 2026 match before September. Since then we have graded two Bafana picks, read off the live log on our home page this morning, and published no pick at all on the Egypt friendly, because we publish no picks on friendlies, as the match preview explained. Bafana won, and we would still make the same call.
| Match | Our pick | Score | Graded |
|---|---|---|---|
| South Africa v Guinea, 26 Sep | South Africa win, 58% | 2-1 | WIN |
| Eritrea v South Africa, 30 Sep | South Africa win, 74%, strong | 0-5 | WIN |
| Egypt v South Africa, 4 Oct | No pick, friendly | 0-1 | NOT GRADED |
Two from two is a sample and not a hit rate. The figures that are large enough to mean something are the site-wide ones: 109 wins and 77 losses over 186 graded picks, 59 percent, and 25 wins from 30 strong-band picks at 70 percent and above, 83 percent. Of our 77 losses, 42 were draws, because every pick we have graded so far named a winner and our rules count a draw as a loss in that case. All of it is on the home page pick log, losses included.
