Responsible Gambling — Help, Limits and Self-Exclusion

Betting is entertainment that costs money. It is not income, and it is not a way to recover a loss. This site is for adults aged 18 and over only. If betting has stopped being fun, the help below is free, confidential and available right now.

Free help in South Africa

0800 006 008

National Responsible Gambling Programme helpline. Free, confidential counselling and treatment, available around the clock. You do not need to have a diagnosed problem to call, and you do not need money to get help.

Winners know when to stop

No prediction on this site, including the ones we get right, changes the basic arithmetic of betting: the bookmaker sets prices to make a profit over time. Our published record exists so you can judge our analysis honestly, not so you can treat betting as a reliable source of money. It is not one, for us or for you.

Six rules that actually protect you

  • Only stake money you can lose entirely. If losing it would affect rent, food, school fees, transport or a debt repayment, it is not stake money.
  • Set a deposit limit before you deposit. Every licensed operator lets you cap deposits daily, weekly or monthly. Set it while you are calm, not while you are chasing.
  • Never borrow to bet. Not from a lender, not from family, not on a credit facility, not from a loan app.
  • Never chase a loss. Doubling a stake to win back what you lost is the single most common route from a bad night to real harm.
  • Keep a time limit. Use the reality check and session timer tools your operator offers.
  • Do not bet to fix a mood. Betting to escape stress, boredom, grief or money worry is the point at which it stops being entertainment.

Signs it has become a problem

Problem gambling rarely announces itself. It usually shows up first as a small pattern of hiding things. If several of these are true, it is worth talking to someone:

  • You bet more than you planned, or more often than you planned.
  • You have lied to anyone about how much you bet or how much you lost.
  • You have borrowed, sold something, or used money meant for something else to fund a bet.
  • You feel restless or irritable when you try to cut down.
  • You keep betting to win back losses.
  • Betting is affecting your sleep, work, studies or relationships.
  • You have tried to stop before and could not.

None of these mean you are weak or foolish. Gambling products are engineered to be difficult to stop, and needing help with one is ordinary.

Tools that work

Deposit and loss limits

Available in the account settings of every licensed operator. Limits usually take effect immediately when you tighten them and are deliberately slow to loosen. That delay is a feature, not a fault.

Self-exclusion

You can ask an operator to close your account and refuse you service for a fixed period or permanently. In South Africa you can also apply to a provincial gambling board or the National Gambling Board to be added to the register of excluded persons, which bars you across licensed operators rather than just one. Advertising that encourages anyone to come off that register is prohibited, and we will never publish any.

Blocking software

BetBlocker is free, works worldwide and blocks thousands of gambling sites across your devices. Gamban is a paid equivalent. Both are more effective than willpower alone, because they remove the decision at the moment it is hardest to make.

Take a break from us too

If you are cutting down, unsubscribe from this site, mute it and block it along with the bookmakers. A predictions site is part of the habit loop, not outside it.

Getting help outside South Africa

Support services vary a great deal by country, and in much of Africa there is no national gambling helpline. Where that is the case, the most reliable routes are your operator’s own self-exclusion and deposit-limit tools, free blocking software such as BetBlocker, and a doctor or clinic, since problem gambling is a recognised condition that general practitioners and mental health services can treat or refer. If you are in the United Kingdom, GamCare runs the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133.

If you are in crisis right nowIf gambling losses have left you feeling hopeless or thinking about harming yourself, please do not wait. In South Africa, the South African Depression and Anxiety Group operates a 24-hour helpline on 0800 567 567. The National Responsible Gambling Programme on 0800 006 008 can also help immediately, and both calls are free.

Protecting people under 18

Nobody under 18 may gamble in South Africa, and nothing on this site is intended for anyone under that age. If you share a device with a child, parental control software such as Google Family Link, Apple Screen Time or Net Nanny can restrict access to gambling content. Do not save betting account passwords on a shared device, and do not let anyone under 18 place a bet on your account, which is an offence and will also void the bet.

Our commitments

  • We do not publish content designed to appeal to anyone under 18.
  • We do not describe any bet as risk free, guaranteed, sure or a lock.
  • We do not present betting as a solution to money problems or as a route to income.
  • We publish our losing picks alongside our winning ones, because a record that hides losses encourages exactly the behaviour this page warns about.
  • We carry no advertising encouraging removal from any register of excluded persons.
18+ only. No persons under 18 years are permitted to gamble. Betting involves risk and you can lose money. Nothing on this site is betting advice, and past performance of our predictions does not guarantee future results. Winners know when to stop. National Responsible Gambling Programme: 0800 006 008.
