Betfred is a British bookmaker that also runs high street shops, and its online sportsbook, casino, bingo and virtual sports are run by Petfre (Gibraltar) Limited under UK Gambling Commission licence 039544. The main strength is a simple welcome offer: bet £10 at evens or bigger and receive £50 in free bets. The main weakness is a £900,000 settlement with the Gambling Commission in June 2026 over failures to step in with customers showing signs of harm, and thin public information on banking. Betfred does not hold a South African provincial licence and is not licensed to take bets from people in South Africa.

Licence and safety
The UK Gambling Commission register lists Petfre (Gibraltar) Limited under account 39544 with remote licence 039544-R-319290-010. Its activities are bingo, casino, general betting for real and virtual events and pool betting, all active since 1 November 2014. The active domains on the account are betfred.com, betfred.mobi and oddsking.com.
A separate penalty linked to Betfred’s retail shops was reported in December 2025. We did not confirm it at the regulator and it appears to involve a different licensee, so we have not used it in our score.
Sports and markets
The Betfred homepage leads with Premier League football, the NFL and Formula 1, and its promotions show markets such as first goalscorer and race winner. Betfred also runs a “Double the Odds” promotion, where your first real money bet pays at double the odds if it wins, for example 10/1 settling at 20/1. We could not confirm from the pages we read whether that sits alongside the free bet offer or replaces it, so check at sign-up.
We did not see the sportsbook confirm live streaming, cash out or a bet builder on the pages that loaded, so we have not scored those features.
Casino and bingo
The casino page was promotion-led and did not state a game count, providers or RTP figures. Its welcome offer matches a first deposit or transfer of £5 to £100 with the same amount in bonus funds. The wagering requirement and expiry were not shown, so we cannot work out what that bonus is worth. Bingo is listed as a separate product, with some restrictions on e-wallet and prepaid card deposits.
Welcome offer and the real terms
The sports offer, as published on the promotions page:
- Deposit £10 or more and place a first bet of £10 or more at odds of evens (2.0) or bigger on sports within 7 days
- Receive 3 x £10 sports free bets and 2 x £10 acca free bets within 10 hours of the qualifying bet settling
- Seven day expiry, with eligibility and payment exclusions applying
In plain numbers: your £10 qualifying bet at evens returns £20 if it wins and nothing if it loses. In both cases you receive five free bets worth £50 in total, three of them for any sport and two for accumulators. Free bet stakes are usually kept by the bookmaker, so a £10 free bet at evens normally returns £10 profit, not £20. The page did not say how long the free bets themselves last, so use them quickly.
Payments and withdrawals
The pages we could read did not publish a full payment list, withdrawal times or limits. Offer terms confirm debit card deposits and note exclusions for some e-wallets and prepaid cards on certain offers. Betfred’s responsible gambling page says accounts must pass age verification within 72 hours or they are frozen. Without published payout times, we scored payments low.
Mobile
An offer term refers to iOS app restrictions, which suggests an iPhone app exists, but we did not confirm app listings. The site works in a mobile browser.
Support
The responsible gambling page lists a customer services phone line, 0800 03 20 878, and a customer services address in Birchwood, Warrington. We did not see live chat, email or opening hours on the pages we read.
Responsible gambling tools
Betfred’s responsible gambling page lists daily, weekly and monthly deposit limits, which you set through customer service; online self-exclusion from 6 months to 5 years, which cannot be reversed early; in-shop self-exclusion of up to 12 months; transaction, deposit and withdrawal history in your account; and links to blocking software such as CYBERsitter and Net Nanny. The page still shows an old GamCare phone number, which suggests it has not been updated recently. The current National Gambling Helpline number is 0808 8020 133.
Who can use Betfred
The licence we could verify is the UK Gambling Commission licence, and every offer we read was priced in pounds for British customers. We did not find a list of other accepted countries. If you live outside Great Britain, assume this site is not for you.
