The best betting bonus in South Africa is rarely the biggest one. What decides a welcome offer’s value is the small print: the minimum odds, how many times you must bet it, how long you have, and whether the stake comes back. Judged that way, Hollywoodbets’ R25 no-deposit free bet is the most usable offer for anyone who backs favourites, because its 1.5 minimum odds still allow most of the picks we publish. The large deposit matches below look better on paper and are much harder to turn into withdrawable money.
18+ only. New customers only, T&Cs apply. No deposit required. Confirm the current offer on Hollywoodbets’ own promotions page before registering. Commercial link.
South African welcome bonuses compared
Every bookmaker below holds a South African provincial licence. The offers are as advertised or reported between July and October 2026. Where we have checked an offer ourselves in a full review, we say so. Where we have not, we label it, and where independent sources disagree, we show the disagreement instead of picking a number.
| Bookmaker | Regulator | Welcome offer | Condition that decides its value | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hollywoodbets | KwaZulu-Natal gambling board | R25 free bet plus 50 free spins, no deposit | Bet once at odds of 1.5 or higher, within a short window (24 hours in most sources). Stake not returned | OUR REVIEW |
| Betway | Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board | 100% first deposit match up to R1,000 as a free bet. Several reviews since mid-2026 instead report a R10 free bet, 10 spins and 10 Aviator flights | For the deposit match: bet 3x your deposit at odds of 3.0 or higher on singles within 30 days | SOURCES DISAGREE |
| Supabets | Mpumalanga Economic Regulator | R50 free bet plus 100 free spins, then up to R5,000 across the first three deposits | One source reports a 3x rollover within 15 days | NOT YET VERIFIED |
| 10bet | Mpumalanga Economic Regulator | 100% first deposit match up to R5,000 (some sources say R3,000) | Bet 5x to 8x your deposit plus bonus, at odds of 2.00 or higher | NOT YET VERIFIED |
| YesPlay | Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board | 100% first deposit match up to R3,000 | Bet the bonus 7x within 7 days. A R30,000 cap on bonus withdrawals is reported | NOT YET VERIFIED |
| Sportingbet | South African provincial licence | A three-deposit package, reported anywhere from R1,000 to R15,000 plus 300 spins | One source reports each stage expiring in 48 to 72 hours | SOURCES DISAGREE |
| World Sports Betting | South African provincial licence | 100% first deposit match up to R20,000 plus 100 spins, and a small no-deposit free bet (R25 to R50 reported) | 5x wagering on sports is reported | NOT YET VERIFIED |
“Not yet verified” means what it says. These figures come from independent South African review sites, not from our own check of the operator’s promotions page, and we will update each row as we review the bookmaker in full. Always confirm the current terms on the operator’s own site before you deposit.
The test: which minimum odds fit the bets we actually make
We publish every prediction with a confidence score and grade it against the official result. Our running record is 121 wins from 207 graded picks (58%), and it updates itself as results come in. That lets us test a bonus the way nobody else can: against the kind of bets we actually make.
A minimum odds rule is really a probability rule. Odds of 1.5 imply about a 67% chance, 2.00 implies 50% and 3.0 implies 33%. The higher the minimum, the less likely the bets it forces you onto. Here is how each threshold lines up with our confidence bands:
| Minimum odds | Used by | Strong picks, 70%+ 27W-5L (84%) |
Good picks, 55–69% 53W-31L (63%) |
Close calls, under 55% 41W-50L (45%) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1.5 (about 67%) | Hollywoodbets | NO | MOSTLY | YES |
| 2.00 (50%) | 10bet | NO | NO | ONLY 50% AND BELOW |
| 3.0 (about 33%) | Betway singles | NO | NO | NO |
The records in the header row are live. Read across and the pattern is plain: our strong picks land most often and qualify for none of these offers, while the only band that clears a 2.00 minimum is the one that wins least often. A 3.0 minimum asks you to back outcomes less likely than anything in the first 33 picks we graded, which is why our Betway review calls that bonus hard to clear.
What it actually takes to clear a R1,000 bonus
Headline figures hide the turnover. Here is what each reported wagering rule means if you deposit R1,000 and receive the maximum match on it:
| Bookmaker | Wagering rule as reported | Total you must bet | At odds of | Time allowed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Betway | 3x deposit | R3,000 | 3.0+ on singles | 30 days |
| YesPlay | 7x bonus | R7,000 | Not confirmed for sports | 7 days |
| 10bet | 5x to 8x deposit plus bonus | R10,000 to R16,000 | 2.00+ | Not confirmed |
| Hollywoodbets | No deposit. One bet of the R25 free bet | R25 | 1.5+ | Short, 24 hours in most sources |
Every rand of that turnover is a bet the bookmaker has a margin on. The bigger the multiple and the higher the minimum odds, the more of the bonus you should expect to lose on the way to unlocking it. This is not a reason to avoid deposit matches altogether. It is a reason to read the wagering line before the headline.
Five checks before you claim any bonus
- Minimum odds. Convert them to a probability (divide 1 by the odds). If the number is lower than the chance you would normally back, the bonus is pushing you onto bets you would not otherwise make.
- What the wagering is a multiple of. 5x the bonus, 5x the deposit and 5x deposit plus bonus are three very different amounts.
- The clock. A short expiry is the most common way a bonus is wasted. It usually starts when the bonus is credited, not when you choose to use it.
- What comes back when you win. On most free bets only the winnings are paid. The free bet stake itself is not returned.
- Caps and contributions. Check for a maximum withdrawal from bonus winnings, and which products count towards the wagering. Casino and Lucky Numbers rules often differ from sports.
What we could not verify
- Betway’s current welcome offer. Some sources dated July 2026 still describe the R1,000 deposit match. Others from June and July describe a much smaller R10 free bet pack. It is possible both exist for different sign-up routes. We have not confirmed which applies to a new account today.
- Sportingbet’s package size. Reported totals range from R1,000 to R15,000. That is too wide a spread to quote one figure.
- 10bet’s cap and multiplier. Reported at R3,000 or R5,000, with sports wagering at 5x or 8x.
- Licence numbers. We name each regulator but have not yet checked every licence number at source. The number in the bookmaker’s own site footer is the one to trust.
Why there are no offshore bookmakers on this page
An earlier version of this page, written in January 2025, listed several international brands that hold no South African licence. We removed them in October 2026. Promoting an unlicensed bookmaker to South African bettors leaves them with no protection under South African law if a withdrawal or a dispute goes wrong, however good the bonus looks. We only cover operators licensed by a South African provincial gambling board, as explained on how we review betting sites.
Frequently asked questions
Which South African betting sites offer a no-deposit bonus?
Hollywoodbets gives new customers an R25 free bet plus 50 free spins without a deposit. Supabets and World Sports Betting are also reported to offer small no-deposit free bets. Most other licensed bookmakers require a first deposit.
Do I need a promo code?
For most of these offers, independent reviews say no. Different review sites quote different codes for the same offer, and these are usually affiliate tracking codes rather than better deals. Check the sign-up form itself.
Can I withdraw a bonus straight away?
No. Bonus money has to be wagered under the stated conditions first, and on most free bets only the winnings become withdrawable. FICA verification is also required before any withdrawal.
Can I claim more than one welcome bonus?
You can claim one per bookmaker, so opening accounts at two different licensed operators is allowed. Each bookmaker limits its own offer to one per person, household or device.
18+ only. Betting involves risk and you can lose money. Bonus terms change frequently, so confirm the current offer on Hollywoodbets’ own promotions page before registering. Commercial link.
